Chardham is four temples of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. This four temples are in Uttarakhand state of India. Yamunotri Temple (Temple of Yamuna River) is in Yamunotri Dham at the height of 3290 mtrs. Gangotri Temple (Temple of Ganga River) is in Gangotri Dham at 3415 mtrs height. Kedarnath temple (Temple of Shiva) is in Kedarnath Dham at the height of 3580 mtrs. Badrinath Temple (Temple of Vishnu) is in Badrinath Dham at the height of 3300 mtrs. Gangotri and Badrinath has access by road. Yamunotri is 6 kms trek is from Janki Chatti and for Kedarnath 14 kms trek is required from Sonprayag (one way distance for each temple). From Haridwar to Haridwar it is approx 1250 kms journey by road and 40 kms trekking to visit Chardham. Chardham is one of the most popular and longest pilgrimage circuit. All four temples are closed during winters due to heavy snow fall after Diwali being situated at higher altitude. They generally open around Akshaya Tritiya each year in summer after snow is cleared.

Best time to visit Chardham:

Chardham Temples generally open around Akshaya Tritiya (April – May month) and close around Diwali (Oct – Nov month). Most tourists plan in summer after first week of May till last week of June. July August till mid-September is monsoon season which is difficult sometimes due to heavy rain. September third week till October third week is better time to visit if you want to avoid crowd and high season prices of May June.

Accommodation & Meals at Chardham:

Chardham remains open for approx 06 months so accommodation options are limited. Good amount of budget, standard and dekuxe hotels / guest houses are easily available. Number of luxury hotels are very limited and often difficult get available in high season of May June. Recently homestay options are also increasing in the area. In the meals north indian is widely available throughout the route. All major restaurant also server some south indian items. Local Garhwali food increasing its popularity recently so must try when you have chance.

How to reach Chardham:

By Road: By road Haridwar is best place to start for Chardham. Haridwar is connected to Delhi by road (210 kms distance) 6 hrs drive. From Haridwar the besr route will be Haridwar – Dehradun – Mussoorie – Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot – Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi – Guptkashi – Kedarnath – Guptkashi – Chopta – Joshimath – Badrinath – Rudraprayag – Devprayag – Rishikesh – Haridwar.
By Railway: By Railway Haridwar and Dehradun is best option which is connected to cities like Delhi – Mumbai – Ahmedabad.. Shatabdi Express is very good option from Delhi which runs daily basis.
By Air: Dehradun is nearest airport for the Chardham tour. Dehradun Airport is well connected to Delhi – Mumbai by daily flights. If your arrival is at Dehradun better to stay overnight in Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh or Mussoorie and start next day morning.
